As fans gathered on Thanksgiving Night for the Saints Vs Falcons game they were in for a triple treat. Not only did fans witness an incredible division game and a preview of both Southern and Grambling bands but they also heard the National Anthem sang by the newly crowned Miss Louisiana. Holli Conway, a native of Monroe, LA, went on to become the 2nd Runner Up in the recent Miss America Pageant. Her rendition of the Star Spangled Banner honored our troops and made all in attendance very proud to be an American. The Saints defeated the Falcons 38-17 in…

The Queen was attacked on Twitter this week after Texas incumbent, Ted Cruz, was re-elected to the U.S. Senate.  Beyonce posted a picture of herself wearing a Beto O’Rouke hat to a Twitter feed. The Democratic Senate Candidate and his followers were appreciative of the support of Mrs. Carter but many of the Texas voters bashed her on Twitter for waiting so long to endorse him. She didn’t post the endorsement picture until hours before the polls closed Tuesday night. Her post read: I’m feeling grateful for everyone before me who fought so hard to give us all the right…

I come in Peace. I already know this is a sensitive subject for most of you ‘Star’ people but take a minute and breathe. The world is not over. Hearing the news of Dez Bryant landing the greatest opportunity of his life broke the internet this week. Many of you guys are upset and actually you have very valid reasons to be mad. Big mad. Fan Favorite Even people who don’t like the Cowboys franchise agree with all of you on one thing… your owner is your problem. I don’t know what kind of dirt Jason Garrett has on Jerry…

With the Bayou Classic Weekend beginning the next day expect massive traffic and tons of social events spread across the weekend. This is not the first time Southern University’s Band has performed during a Saints Game. The relationship between The Saints and Southern has grown over the years and has become sort of a…

Thanks to an LSU game there were no flights available this weekend. So, it forced me to travel by train. I actually like the train better than flying but it takes longer. Sitting in the terminal in New Orleans, LA I was quickly reminded why I love riding Amtrak. A lovely woman sitting next to me leaned over to ask if I knew why our train was delayed. After finding out Amtrak gave us all different reasons (typical) we laughed about it. I heard someone beckon her. “Lucille,” they said. “The train is about to pull in.” She asked if…

All music connoisseurs wish for one thing when they buy a new CD. We hope it’s a project that will take us to another place. Musicians have become so EP-ish now that it’s actually hard to find a project with more than 3 quality songs on it.  Keyondra Lockett’s new project, The Heal, is epic. I must warn you in advance. It’s going to be hard to pick a favorite on this one. Lockett, a native of Shreveport, LA, knows all about waiting for the right season. It has arrived and her new project should be an easy fit for…

For many it’s unbelieveable. For Blacks in the South it’s just another chapter in the same ‘ole story that’s been prohibiting unity for over a century in America. Kenner, LA Mayor Ben Zhan issued a memorandum prohibiting any booster group from purchasing and wearing any Nike products that are worn/used in city Parks & Recreation facilities. Most people, even White people, were surprised at the urgent necessity of the Mayor to even take a stand on an issue that has absolutely nothing to do with the administrative governance of the city. The Mayor’s ban is in response to Nike choosing…

A ‘Walk In The Park’ is scheduled for Monday, September 10 at 5pm in Kenner, LA to display a united front among citizens of all races against a recent memorandum issued by the city’s Mayor Ben Zhan. That Memorandum, signed by the Mayor himself, forbids any booster club from having events at any Public Recreation Center if youth/participants involved will be wearing clothing made by Nike.  The action of the Mayor is in response to a recent Nike Ad with Ex-Football Star, Colin Kaepernick, as the center of their popular ‘Just Do It’ campaign.  “It is unconstitutional to tell people…
