Ohana Pier, Slidell’s premiere Family Outreach Center, had a full night on last night as Community Leaders and Musicians joined together for “Christmas At Ohana”. The event was co-ordinated by Pastors Ro Wright and Greg Trumbach. Both Pastors facilitate Worship Services in the venue on Sunday mornings.
“We wanted to bridge the gap between our community and our youth. So, we invited musicians and business leaders to celebrate the Holiday with our youth,” said Ro Wright, Pastor of Metro Assembly of Faith. Greg and Cherie Trumbach (Christian Fellowship Church) are over the Ohana Pier program and their church sponsored gifts for the kids which included Gift cards and basketballs.
Managers from Verizon Wireless, Chilli’s, and Popeyes in Slidell were on deck to give the kids a positive message. The entertainment included Gospel Rappers: Favor, Lyrical Minister, and Rebirth Garcia along with Eclectic Soul Artists: Casme and Caren Green. Stars from the movie, Get The Ring, stopped by to celebrate as well.
The kids ate well, danced, and celebrated in prayer after a powerful word from rapper Lyrical Minister, who closed out the night. “I was a kind in jail making all the wrong decision but God gave me a chance to turn it all around,” he told youth. Some of the kids had tears falling down their faces as they listened to his powerful testimony.
Local families and community guests supported as well. It is the goal of Ohana to host more events in the future which will embrace the ever-evolving demographics of Slidell. “We want families to know there is a place in our community where people of all backgrounds and ages can meet, grow, and thrive together with the Love of God,” said Pastor Greg Trumbach.
