HBCU Sunday Mixers to begin in Houston, tour to feature Author/Activist Ro Wright in seven cities

Houston, TX will host the first of seven HBCU Sunday Mixers which will all take place in Spring 2019. The mixers are being organized by Educated & Melanated, a network of HBCU Alumni in various cities around the country. Ro Wright (Author, Activist, and Film Director) will host the mixers in every city while promoting his new book, The People Next Door, which was recently added to the elite Amazon Unliminted Books Collection.

The two hour events will take place early on Sunday afternoons. Participants will sip and delight themselves to drinks and food with the sounds of 80’s & 90’s Hip Hop and R&B setting the ambience. Ro Wright will moderate a quick open mic discussion on the importance of Education & Entrepreneurship within the Black Community.

The HBCU Sunday Mixers will begin March 31 at Prospect Park 3100 Fountain View Dr. in Houston, TX. Prospect Park is a very popular urban venue in the Houston Metroplex and have vowed to host the mixer with no admission fee but attendees must RSVP (link below). The bar will be available and the discussion is expected to be lively and energetic. HBCU Almuni or current students are welcome to attend and even wear clothing to represent their HBCU if they’d like. However, it is not required.

“The whole purpose is to challenge Alumni to be more engaged with their Alumni chapters but also to suggest ways we should repopularize HBCU’s to this generation,” said Ro Wright, who attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. Wright is working with members of the Grambling St. University Alumni Chapter and Southern University Chapter in Houston to host the event. “I’d like to see Alumni Chapters become more visible in every market. Many times the chapters are very organized but the Alumni community may not be as engaged as they could be. We need to light a fire. Our schools need the support and our kids need our amazing universities to prosper now more than ever,” said Wright.

The HBCU Sunday Mixers are scheduled to take place in Atlanta, Dallas, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Jackson, and Birmingham as well. Spoken Word Artists and local entrepreneurs are welcome to participate at any event by texting (text only) 504-655-7155.
