For most people, all it takes is one bad week and it just spirals through every part of your life. One bad financial week can knock your whole month off. One bad month can knock a whole season off. One season of discomfort can set you back for a year. Before you know it, you’ve been trying to get back on track for years and it doesn’t seem like any progress is being made. Then, out of the blue… you give the world your middle finger and you just don’t care anymore. Despair can overcome the strongest person if it catches you off guard.
When I was a kid I had to do an art project for class. I knew what I wanted to do. I had it all mapped out in my head. When I got to class and it was time to do my project I realized I left my glue at home. I sat there watching all the other kids smiling and having fun doing their projects while I sat in gloom because I couldn’t do mine. By the end of the class period my teacher told me she was very disappointed that I didn’t even try to complete the project. I told her it wasn’t that I didn’t want to complete the assignment. I just didn’t have any glue. She reached in her desk drawer and pulled out a tube of Elmer’s Glue, looked me in my face, and told me… “I have enough glue for everyone. All you had to do was ask me for it.”
Sometimes, it can be very difficult just trying to hold it altogether. You can have it all mapped out in your head but for some reason the train keeps going off the track. Even though you can see where you’re trying to get to in life and you know you can do it, something always comes up and sets you back. It’s life. We’ve all either been there, are there, or will get to that point soon or later.
Elmer’s Glue won’t fix your life when it’s in a jam but we do have access to something better. Have you ever been late on a bill and they give you a time extension to pay it? Grace is like God’s extension plan. It’s how God helps us hold it together. I’ve seen a person’s lights stay on an extra week because a worker overlooked their cut off. I’ve known people’s cars to get fixed much cheaper than they thought because God caused a part they needed to be reduced that specific week. I’ve witnessed a person who was fired from a job get rehired and she became the supervisor over the person who fired her.
Grace holds your situation together while God puts you back together.
Don’t give up so quickly. His hand can’t hold your life together if you are consistently trying to take your life out of His hands. He has enough Grace for everyone. All you have to do is ask for it.
Colossians 1:17 (NIV)
He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
